Which Mobile Banking Apps Are the Best?

Even if you don’t have a lot of money in your bank account, you’ll still want to be able to access your funds when you’re on the go. That’s where banking apps come in. If you don’t have an account with one of these services, you can easily get a checking account–apply online!

Synchrony

Synchrony is an all-around great app for people who want simple mobile banking. The UI is clean and easy to read, and you can track your credit card and bank account from the same app. While the service doesn’t offer a checking account, it’s still got a convenient mobile check deposit feature and good return rates on its savings accounts.

If you already use a credit card for most of your purchasing and just want a simple banking app, Synchrony is for you. Just be aware that there is no way to deposit cash using this service, unlike some similar app-based banking programs.

Ally

Like Synchrony, Ally is an app-first banking solution. It also supports mobile check depositing, but it has no way to deposit cash. That being said, the app is competitive in terms of rates on savings accounts and money market accounts.

This service also features “savings buckets” and “surprise savings” features that help you save toward your financial goals with some app-guided assistance. What’s more, you can also use Zelle through the Ally service to pay your friends and family for small things like gas money or lunch, all without having to leave your banking app.

Chime

Let’s save the best for last, shall we? Chime is preferred by many younger users who don’t want a traditional banking experience. Chime is an app first; it was made from the ground up to be a mobile app that handles finances. Younger users also love that Chime often clears your paycheck or direct deposit two days early compared to traditional banks, allowing you to be a bit more flexible with your cash even if it’s not quite payday yet.

You can also use Chime’s savings account to set up automatic deposits, making it easier than ever to save for later. One feature allows you to put a portion of your paycheck each week into savings sight unseen. Another lets you round up purchases with your bank card to the nearest dollar, sending the change into your savings account. And, unlike many app-only banking programs, you can deposit cash at select locations, though fees might apply.
