Apple unveiled its latest lineup of high-end smartphones last week, and they look like the next big thing in the tech world. The iPhone 14 Pro is shaping up to be one of the most advanced smartphones ever made, and reviewers are already gushing about everything from its new A16 Bionic chip to its advanced camera array.
Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming iPhone 14 and why it’s going to be one of the biggest smartphone launches ever.
A smartphone’s cameras are typically the star of the show when it comes to brand-new handsets. The main thing that sets a high-end smartphone apart from medium-budget alternatives is usually the quality of the rear camera array. The same is true for the iPhone 14 Pro, which sports three impressive rear cameras that can perform well under almost any lighting conditions.
Early reviews say the iPhone 14 Pro can take photos that preserve an impressive level of detail even in suboptimal lighting conditions, including the tough mixed lighting conditions of just after dusk and just before dawn. This is perfect for creative people who use their phones to capture lots of videos and pictures.
Another pair of new features on the iPhone 14 are, interestingly enough, features you hope to never need. These are automatic car accident detection and emergency satellite messaging. The car crash detection feature uses the phone’s accelerometer and other measurement gauges to detect when it might have been involved in a car accident, and then alert the authorities unless the user inputs that they don’t need the service.
The emergency satellite messaging feature is a backup in case the user finds themselves in a scenario without access to a cell phone network. It might sound extreme, but it could be lifesaving in an emergency situation.
Also, if you want the biggest possible screen for this generation, you won’t need to splurge on the most expensive iPhone handset. The iPhone 14 Plus offers a 6.7-inch screen, the same size as the Pro Max, without costing the most out of any of the iPhones in this lineup.
This also coincides with the removal of the iPhone Mini from the lineup. Instead, Apple is relying on the iPhone SE to fill the “pocket-friendly” size niche.
So, what are you waiting for? The iPhone 14 is available now, and it’s the best smartphone Apple has made yet.
