Apple finally showed off its new iPhone SE3 at their highly-anticipated Peek Performance event on Tuesday. The new budget-friendly iPhone is the latest entry in the fan-favorite SE lineup. Apple users who prefer smaller phones with more affordable price tags adore the SE for its slim profile and sub-$500 price tag.

So, what can fans expect from Apple’s latest Special Edition iPhone? Here’s everything we know so far.

Under the Hood

The 2022 iPhone SE sports the same A15 Bionic chip that powers the recent iPhone 13 lineup. This chip is mighty – it can run everything from modern games to complicated augmented reality apps without missing a beat. It enables smoother scrolling and snappier performance between multiple apps.

The 2022 iPhone SE will be the most affordable device yet to sport the A15 chip. As such, it’s likely to be a popular choice for newcomers to Apple’s family of devices. It will serve as a showcase for the company’s sleek user interface, straightforward designs, and premium product quality.

It will also be the first SE series phone to offer 5G connectivity. As such, it will be able to take advantage of the latest wireless communication technology for blazing-fast internet speeds, which is perfect for users who love gaming or watching videos on the go.

Design

The latest iPhone SE doesn’t look very different from its predecessor. It still sports the slim profile and smaller screen users expect from the Special Edition product line. The 2020 iPhone SE measured just four inches across, making it a rare small handset in a market dominated by enormous smartphones. Apple confirmed during the Peek Performance event that the 2022 model will sport stronger glass to help it resist drops and bumps.

The new handset bears only a single rear camera, making it visually distinct from its cousin, the iPhone 13. It also doesn’t support Apple’s Face ID standard and instead relies on a fingerprint scanner. Like its predecessor, it doesn’t have the full-face front screen that iPhones have sported since 2017’s iPhone X.

Pricing and Release

The new mid-range smartphone will retail for $429, making it the most affordable handset in Apple’s product line. Apple announced the 2022 iPhone SE will go up for preorder on Friday, March 11. Fans can expect the new smartphone to hit store shelves later this month. Apple plans to ship the preorders on March 18, so fans won’t have to wait long to get their hands on this diminutive new phone.
